Customer testimony...

A very pleasant and helpful person, who I did not know before asking for his help. I'm disabled with multiple sclerosis, and saw John advertising a threaded spindle on e-bay, which I needed to secure an over-heavy clothes rail before it collapses, but I can no longer bend it.

I asked John if he could. The trouble and work which followed was amazing, all for someone who he didn't know, and all for the cost of the materials and carriage. I can't recommend him enough for being honest, caring and very helpful, as well as generous. Thank you, John - I'm very grateful. You're a true friend.

Mr Pasquin,
Cardiff

Thank you so much for posting the Keyed Mortice Lock Blocker so quickly. It's arrived this morning and it fits perfectly. An absolute Godsend so we don't have workmen walking in uninvited when we're in bed. Thank you so much. Very friendly service.

...and our appreciation, also, to many others for their custom, comments, and support - thank-you!

Guinness Table Lamp - Bottle Lamp

Make - Model: Litez - Lite-Bitz!

£ (per unit, with free UK delivery):

£22.50

This was the first of our bottle lamps to be designed as an uplighter (previously all of our lamps had been designed with coolie-style lampshades fitted the 'right-way' up) because at the time, and according to the advertising, not everything that is black and white makes sense; however, after switching over to producing our own shades I decided that the lamps looked far better with the uplighters anyway; although the most recent updates to the shades now give you a choice of uplighter or downlighter.

As with the Heavi-Bitz! lamps, the base is wooden; although, again, this is an exception to the rule for Lite-Bitz! lamps, which are typically mounted on stylised resin bases in the form of crown caps.

Additionally, the body of our Guinness lamps is now a solid colour, whilst the base and components can vary (although I am rather keen on the gold splatter effect shown here!) and the uplighter shade, emulating the froth on a pint, is something I have great fun with!!

John Barnes, Designer,
Litez Design & Wholesale

Overall Flex Length: Not less than 2 metres (approximately 7')
Flex Path: Through the underside of the base and bottle, then up through a length of threaded bar, which protects the flex and securely locks the base and lamp together. - Genuine Litez lamps do not have the flex running down the back side of the bottle, never have, and never will!
Inline Switch: Yes, - normally located approximately 1 metre from the lamp base - bi-colour black and white*; however, the top cover of this can be sprayed if required, or even replaced completely with an inline or foot-operated dimmer switch.
Lampholder: E27 (standard Edison Screw) Lampholder**. - These are more reliable and safer than bayonet lamp fittings, and are not switched because the switch for the lamps is located on the wire in the form of an inline switch; although we do offer a switched lampholder as an option, if required.
Base: Bevelled edge pine base*** or (most alcopop and smaller beer/lager/ale bottles) resin base in the form of a stylised bottle crown cap, with sturdy polyurethane bumper feet and multi-directional flex access to enable the lamp to be situated even in the tightest of corners with no flex access problems. Additionally...
Lamp Facing (wooden base lamps only): It is also possible to have a wooden base lamp assembled with the lamp body angled towards a corner of the base... so the flex and the lamp body are both multi-directional, and both can be quickly and easily adjusted to give the right facing and flex access for wherever you choose to locate the lamp.
Shade: The lamp shades fitted to new lamps are all now pre-cut from fire-retardant card ****, making them more environmentally friendly and producing a far nicer finish.

After experimenting with the lamp shade with a view to making the lamps suitable for both uplighter and downlighter display it was decided that, with the new design of shade, this was not necessary.

- The lamps look fantastic with the shades as they are in the photographs (not all the photographs show the new style of shade yet), so it has now been decided not to further modify the shade - it is not a true uplighter, nor is it a downlighter, - it is our own unique design, and is both easy to assemble and easy to replace (should that ever be necessary) - no cheap and nasty tapes or glue seams that come unstuck, attract dirt, or split, but genuine, quality, brass fittings that will serve for a lifetime of use and which are every bit as replaceable as most of the other lamp components!
Lamp Composition: The lamps are all supplied fully assembled, with shade, inline switch and fitted plug. All 3-pin British style plugs are now externally fused, so blown fuses can be replaced quickly and easily by the customer.
Accessories: All the lamps are supplied, with light bulb, in a 'cage' with full documentation, care guide, and cable tidy module containing a duster and brush.
Guarantee/Warranty: Certo! Litez Lamps are probably the only lamps with a lifetime guarantee practically no matter what. - We can (and do) offer everything from discounted replacements (free replacements with some of our older lamps) to updates to the latest components, including replacement of smashed bodies and chipped, cracked, or generally damaged components.

LDW will also accept the return of Litez lamps that are being discarded and can even arrange to cover return costs.

You will not find this level of service or quality of goods with any high street supplied lamps and definitely not with any of the numerous cheap imports and imitations.

All the lamps are assembled in compliance with Πstandards using British Safety approved RoHS compliant components and in accordance with the Low Voltage Directive (2006/95/EC) for electrical safety, with assembly and final testing by a qualified electrician, all as checked and verified by the Trading Standards.

* Some photographs may still display all white, all black, or no inline switch whatsoever; however all new lamps, except where customers have requested otherwise, are now fitted with a bi-colour inline switch.

** These lampholders are not due to phased out from 2011 onwards, nor are the small round/golfball lamps (light bulbs) for these lampholders; however, a gradual changeover has been put into place to replace the use of ES lampholders with G9 capsule type lampholders. Therefore a lamp may be supplied with either.

*** Some photographs may still display MDF bases; however all new wooden base lamps and lamp designs are now supplied with a pine base.

**** Some photographs may still display our old uplighter shades; however all new lamps and lamp designs are now supplied with the new style shades, which can be seen on our lamps multi-purchase display in the photographs of several of the lamps displayed there, including the Archers Aqua Raspberry bottle lamp, Smirnoff Red Ice N°71 bottle lamp, and Smirnoff Black Ice bottle lamp.

...and, yes, our lamps have (finally!) been 'officially' approved by Mum!

Item Options

If you wish to have a lamp produced with a corner facing please indicate this using the options shown below.

Should you wish to purchase a lamp with corner facing with the intention of purchasing further lamps with standard facing, please make your purchase as two seperate additions to the purchase list or contact LDW following the purchase with details of your requirements.

Lamp Facing in Line with Base

Lamp Facing Towards a Corner of the Base

This option allows you to select a switched lampholder, which can be in place of or in addition to an inline switch.

Note: G9 capsule lampholders are not available as switched units, so a switched lampholder can only be offered as an E27 ES (Edison Screw) fitting.

No Switched Lampholder

Switched E27 ES Lampholder - Add £2.50

If you need a non-UK plug for your lamp please select the required plug here:

British 3-Pin Plug

Euro 2-Pin Plug

Continental 2-Pin Schuko Plug

US UL Approved 2-Pin Plug

This is an option for anyone wanting to replace the usual inline switch with a dimmer switch, and is recommended for use with light bulbs of upto 60W for anyone wanting to use their lamp for both general and subdued lighting.

The dimmer-switch can be used to turn the lamp off and includes a built-in power indicator LED.

Note: Only one dimmer switch can be fitted to a lamp, unless you select a switched lampholder, so please leave this set to the default selection unless you definitely want a dimmer switch in place of the usual inline switch on your lamp.

No Dimmer Switch

Inline Dimmer Switch - Add £5.50

Foot-Operated Dimmer Switch - Add £6.00

Not recommended, but likely a whole lot better than using one or more extension leads, - extra flex can be useful when your bed or sideboard is on one side of the room and the wall socket is on the other, so you can run the flex around the skirting or under the carpet without running the risk of necking yourself (or breaking your neck... ) when you try to cross the room...

This option adds a very generous additional 2 metres of flex to your lamp, so the total flex length will be around 4 metres (or 13'!).

If you require a shorter length of additional flex for your lamp, please update us with the preferred length once you have placed your order.

Additional Flex - Add £2.50

So you have decided that your lamp is going be something extra special or you simply think the default design for the lamp sucks?! - Well, give us your colour preferences and we'll see what we can do with them!

Please do check the photos on our lamp listings before creating your own colour scheme and do check the guidelines shown below.

Also, whilst LDW might accept some custom lamps as a return, we do reserve the right to refuse to accept them as such if we feel that the customer's colour scheme has made them unsaleable!

  • Most metallic colours are available, and LDW can emulate a pearlescent colour scheme if required. - This is not easy to do, and works far better with some colours than others.
  • Browns (including copper and bronze) are usually best avoided (although some nice splatter effects can sometimes be created - see Kidz-Bitz! → Pepsi lamp).
  • Silver tends to be very light, so a strong metallic grey is usually best if you require a strong silver colour.
  • Phosphorescent colours are not a problem! - These are available in orange, blue, green, pink, and yellow; unfortunately not in red, though...
  • All parts of the lamp can be coloured; although plugs are limited to the top only, as are inline switches.
  • A fluorescent pigment can also be added to the body fill of the lamp and works well with clear glass bottles (the effect with coloured glass can be unpredictable and can produce some very peculiar results); however, whilst whatever this is added to will have a greenish tinge, the glow-in-the-dark effect is superb (and long lasting, too!) ...and we have now several other colours of pigment to play with, including yellow, pink, orange, and blue...
  • The body of the lamp can be produced with a translucent, solid, or multi-colour fill (even a mix of translucent and solid or with no fill whatsoever). No fill whatsoever can be useful for bottles with very dark glass bodies; however it can also make them more prone to being knocked over.
  • Resin splashes, dribbles, etc. can be added to the bases of lamps, even to the plugs, switches, and lampholders. - These don't need to be the same colour as the body fill and, again, can be a translucent or solid colour.

The main use of this effect is making something look as though the contents of the drink (or something, at least!) have been splashed or spilled on the lamp, and can produce some very interesting finishing touches (see Heavi_Bitz! → Cointreau Lamp).
